Blogging is now so easy that even I am doing it. Oh, well.

I started this because I wanted to comment on something I read on NRO and it seemed like the way to do it. I clicked the Blog button on my Google toolbar and here I am. Maybe I'll do this more often now that it's easy.

Anyway, here's the phrase that struck my fancy: America's hollow heroes of celebrity

It's used by Kerri Houston in a guest commentary on NRO. http://www.nationalreview.com/comment/houston200401060853.asp. And it's apt and should be self-explanitory. Those hollywood types who think they have contributed something to our nation because they got lots of people to see their movies. They are not just hollow because of the inherent falsehood of their art, but because they know that making millions of dollars for what they do is insane.

I keep thinking that the reason people like Britney Spears and Michael Jackson behave the way they do is because they are being driven insane by the celebrity... millions of people are worshiping them and since they know they are not gods, the adulation is driving them over the edge. When you begin to believe in something that you know is not true, there has to be a disconnect somewhere. It comes out in the bizarre behavior of these lost people.

I'm not looking for someone to blame, I'm just observing. And hoping that enough people find my writing to make me popular, but not so many that I become an object of worship... although I hear the perks are nice.
